Course Title:
Evacuation Chair Operators Course (½ Day)
Course Objective:
Our course is designed to cover key areas of legislation and risk assessment combined with practical use of the evacuation chair. Participants will have sufficient time to practice using the evacuation chair and gain confidence in their ability and that of the equipment
Course Outcomes:
Including the following topics:
- A basic awareness of fire regulations which affect wheelchair users and individuals who suffer from mobile impairment
- A basic awareness of the Fire Safety Order & Fire Risk Assessment
- The ability to secure the individual in to the chair, transport the individual to the staircase and descend at least one flight of stairs
- An understanding of the Manual Handling procedures relating to the evacuation chair and the safe transportation of the occupant
- Confidence in their ability to operate the evacuation chair in a safe and timely manner
Target Audience:
Any individual who is required to operate an evacuation chair to facilitate the means of escape for wheelchair users in the event of a fire and within a multi storey building
Pre-requisites:
A valid First Aid at Work Certificate
Course Accreditation:
An Evacuation Chair Operators Certificate which First Rate Training currently validates for 2 years
Course Summary:
The use of an evacuation chair requires an appropriate understanding of who the equipment has been designed for and how to operate it in the event of an emergency evacuation. Essentially, to avoid injury and accidents, individuals must be adequately trained in its safe use.
The Evacuation Chair Operators Course is specifically designed for on-site training and for groups of no more than 8 participants. Courses are run using your own equipment.
