One in Seven Young Teens Involved in Alcohol-Related Emergency

One in seven youngsters, aged 11 to 16, has found themselves in an emergency situation as a result of a friend drinking too much alcohol, new research suggests.

A survey commissioned found that more than 532,000 young teenagers have had to cope with an inebriated friend who was sick, injured or unconscious in the past 12 months.

Meanwhile, nearly nine in ten teenagers have been confronted with some kind of medical emergency, leading a well known training provider to launch a new first aid campaign for young people.

A first aid expert at the organisation revealed: 'Four out of five young people say that they would feel safer if they had some first aid knowledge.’

'Our aim is to ensure that all young people and children in the UK have the opportunity to learn first aid skills and gain the confidence to save lives.'

The campaign will involve a national programme of activities, designed to teach first aid to 11 to 16-year-olds so that they know how to act in an emergency situation.
